RULES OF THE GAME

Alphabet game

Use the card: Letters of the alphabet

Players receive eight cards each. The shuffler places the remaining pile of cards in the middle. He turns the top card over and places it next to the pile, face down.

The player to the left of the shuffler starts the game. To discard a card, he or she must have in his or her deck a card containing either the letter identical to the first letter of the character's name, or the previous or next letter in the alphabet. For example, if the card turned over is Hans, the player can play a card containing the letter g, h or i, regardless of its position in the name. The player could play, for example, the card Rhai, Gustave or Fripatatie. If the player has played Fripatatie, for example, the next player must discard a card containing either the letter e, f or g. He could choose, for example, Coco-Jolie, Ettorac or Jigine.

When a player has no cards containing one of these letters, he must draw a new card. If, by chance, he draws a good card, he can play it immediately.

Special features: If the player has the same card as the one turned up on the pile, he can play that card and play again. If by chance he has other pairs, he can play them right away, if the letters allow. Cards showing the characters Rhai and Zin can be played one after the other, reversing the direction of play. In this game, the Zassiette and Zus Than Cile jokers can be played at any time if the player has no cards to discard, and he can then play a card of his choice.

When a player has only one card in hand, he must say Zamotza. If he forgets to do so, he must draw two cards. The player who finishes first wins the game. Yippee!

Alphabet battle

Use the card: Letters of the alphabet

The Brewer deals all the cards one at a time to all the players in a pile, face down. In this game, some players may have more cards than others.

Flow of the game: At the same time, all players turn over the card on top of their pile. The first letter of the character's name determines the value of the card. In this game, the letter Z is worth more than the letter A. So, according to the order of the alphabet, D is worth more than C, M is worth more than G, and so on.

Zassiette and Zus Than Cile are the jokers in this game, with Zus Than Cile being the strongest joker.

Example: If one player lays down the Mimi card and the other player lays down the Gustave card, the player holding the Mimi card wins. He picks up both cards and places them face-down next to him. Play continues in this way, with each player turning over a card at the same time.

Special feature: If two players turn over an identical card, a battle ensues. They have to turn over a new card from their pile. The player with the lowest value card loses, and must hand over a card to the other player to pay. When a player has finished his pile, he starts again with his new pile. The player who runs out of cards loses the game. Fortunately, it's rare to end a game of battle, as the game can go on for a very long time, or never end at all. It's all in good fun. Yippee!

Memory game

Putting aside the Zassiette and Zus Than Cile cards

It's possible to choose pairs of cards and not take all the cards in the deck, especially if there are only a few players.

Shuffle the cards and lay them face-down on a flat surface. The youngest player starts.

Sequence: Each player in turn turns over two cards. The cards must be turned over completely so that all players can see them. A player completes a pairing when he turns over two identical cards. In this case, he takes and keeps the cards and continues to play as long as he can match cards.

Special feature: In this game, Rhai and Zin are non-identical twins. The cards can therefore be considered as pairs.

If the two cards are not identical when turned over, the player turns them over in the same place, and it's the next player's turn. Players must try to memorize the cards so they can match up as many as possible. The winner is the player with the most cards. Yippee!

Zassiette Game

Set aside the Zus Than Cile card

Cards can be removed depending on the number of players. In this case, you keep as many pairs as you like.

Deal all cards one at a time to all players, regardless of whether some players have more cards than others.

Process: Players look at their deck and check whether they have identical cards. If so, they lay them face down on the table. The first player fans out his cards towards the player on his left, so that the latter can pick one up. The left-hand player checks to see if the chosen card is identical to one he or she already has. If so, he places the pair on the table, face down.

If he has no pair, he keeps the card in his deck. This last player does the same, fanning out his cards to the player to his left. Play continues until Zassiette remains. The player left with Zassiette loses the game, and the others win. Yippee!
